HPA HIGHLIGHTS
If you would like to submit a short article for the Proud of our Kids or Alumni News column of the Highlights, please send it to Janice Constancio jconstan@highpointacademy.org or Liz Staff lstaff@highpointacademy.org.  You may also drop it off in the school office - the deadline is November 24.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Junior High students will be holding a Thanksgiving food drive for Friends in Deed, an organization that provides groceries for low income and homeless people in the community.  The drive will be held from November 17-21.  Please click here for a list of items they would like donated.
HOLIDAY PROGRAM TRYOUTS!
Open call for 7th and 8th graders interested in playing a role in this year's Holiday Program.  Auditions will be held Monday, November 24 and Tuesday, November 25 from 4:30-5:30 PM.  Please meet at the lunch tables and attend only one of the audition days.  There are between 16 and 23 parts available, as well as one Stage Manager.  If you have a conflict or questions, please email Hillary Wolfe at hillwolfe@hotmail.com to make other arrangements.

The cast call will be posted on Wednesday, November 26, so that the students may learn their lines over the Thanksgiving holiday.  Rehearsals (2 or 3 each week) will start December 1, after school from 4:30-5:30 PM, and there will be one rehearsal on Saturday, Dec. 6.  A detailed rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions.  The Holiday Program is Thursday, December 18. Thank you in advance for your participation!
DRIVER VOLUNTEER UPDATE
Every driver who is driving on a field trip or to a sporting event must turn in two forms:  the Proof of Insurance Form and a signed Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) Consent Form.  It is necessary to turn in these forms only if you plan to drive students off campus.  Room parents need to check with the office before an event to be sure that their drivers have been approved.  With the goal of keeping all students safe, HPA reserves the right to select drivers for field trips and sporting events based on the results of the MVR's and the advice of our insurance company.
PARENT EDUCATION WORKSHOP--DATE CHANGE!
The Parent Education Workshop scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, has been re-scheduled for Thursday, December 4 at 8:15 AM.  The topic is "Learning Styles & Strategies to Help your Children Learn" and it will be presented by Elena Hermanson, Educational Consultant & Parent Advisor.  It will take place in the church foyer.  Hope to see you there!
EXTENDED CARE NOTICE
Extended Care will close at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, November 26 (half day).  Regular half day dismissal is @ 11:30 AM for Grades K & 1 (Late Birds until Noon) and 12:00 PM for Grades 2-8.
2008-2009 ANNUAL FUND
Please look for the flyer that was sent home with our students today!  We have now reached 63% parent participation.  Our goal of 100% participation continues to be of the utmost importance.  Click here to view the flyer on line and click here to view the latest donor list.
NO COST FUNDRAISERS

GOOD NEWS FOR RALPHS SHOPPERS!  Ralphs has made it even easier to sign up for their NO-COST fundraiser.  Simply click here, print out the attached sheet with the bar code and take it with you on your next shopping trip to Ralphs.  They will scan the bar code along with your Ralphs Shopping Card OR your phone number you enter, and you will be registered in the program.  This is a one-time registration.  REMEMBER:  This is FREE to you and High Point gets money back.  HPA's last quarterly check was $342 and it could be so much more! Monday, November 24 is the last day to turn in your Poinsettia orders!  If we reach our all school goal of 7,000 plants, there will be an Ice Cream Sundae party for the entire school!  Also, each class with 100% participation will get a Free Dress Day! Get those final sales in!  Pick-up day will be Tuesday, December 2, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Tuesday after we return from Thanksgiving break.

Please turn in your completed red Summary Order Form with your money in the red envelope.  Keep the white Sales Order Form for your records so you know where to deliver the poinsettias!   Go to http://www.highpointacademy.org/ourcomm_forms.asp for additional forms and information about the sale.

FAMILY DINNER
The Family Dinner was a smashing success!  Thanks to co-chairs, Melanie Hamon and Mary Irwin for pulling everything together beautifully, Jim Christodoulelis for coordinating all the food vendors, Bob Michero and Kevin Tomkins for supplying all the beverages.  Almost all of the food and drinks were donated to turn this community building event into a successful fundraiser.  Thank you to all the parents and students who volunteered to make this such a happy occasion.
